The Hills Are Alive With the Sound of Swooning!

I have a little confession to make.
I may have blabbed it all over Facebook, but in case you missed it, here it is:
I have a secret crush on Captain Von Trapp from 'The Sound of Music'.
Is it the sparkling blue eyes? The thin lips struggling not to smile?  The Naval uniform? That lovely, bastardised accent (Austrian/Canadian/British) when he drawls "Fraulein"?
Or is it the way he blows his whistle?
I can't decide but it's all good.

Captain Georg (pronounced Gay-orgg) Von Trapp
as portrayed by the delicious distinguished actor, Christopher Plummer.
Ok everybody, sing along with me:
"The Hills are alive.....with the Sound of Music.."

"Climb every Mountain,  ford every stream,
Follow every Rainbow till you find your Dream"

Just once in my life, before I leave this Precious Earth,
I must make my way to the Alps and spin, spin, spin!

"You may call me... Captain!"

The Captain sings 'Edelweiss' swoon, faint, shivers & quivers!

Maria & The Captain falling in love (sigh!)

Love declared ....
Maria marries the Captain

"So Long, Farewell, Auf Wiedersehen, Good Night"

My favourite scene from the film and, yes, it does make me cry.

Am I the only one enchanted by this film, and Captain Von Trapp's whistle-blowing techniques?
Does anyone else feel the call of the Mountains? Do you dream of dancing in a storm with the mail-boy?
Would you like to sing hymns with the nuns at the Abbey? Traipse around Salzburg in clothing made from drapes? Sit on a pine-cone, escape from Nazis and have tea with jam and bread?

I don't know about you, but 'The Sound of Music' will always be one of My Favourite Things.

*Sigh* *Swoons next to you* I"ve had a crush on Captain von Trapp since I was about 7. I also wanted Maria's wedding dress but our wedding in the park didn't call for it. I'm coming to the Alps with you for that spinning adventure!

Hahaha! Thanks for such a fun post:) I love the movie too, maybe not quite as much as you, but I do:) Did you happen to catch the Oprah episode earlier this year when all the movie's actors made an appearance? Intersting, especially when one of the actresses (not Julie Andrews) confessed to having a RAGING crush on Mr. Plummer!

@Cindy: yes, my "love" for the film could be deemed borderline obsessive/psychotic. I did watch the Oprah special, and must admit, a tear did trickle down my cheek. Yes, I don't blame that actress who played Liesel for having a crush on the Captain. Too damn charming. And I always wished that Julie Andrews could be my mother xxx

Its the uniform....definitely the uniform. Thinking about it I may have to invest in a whistle myself!

Oh Eloise! How smouldering hot is that uniform! xx

If you see this movie as a child, you'll be hooked for life. I used to daydream about being Leisel in that fab pink sheer dress (but then it was time to put the kids on the bus). And I blame this movie for my bizarre affinity towards ugly striped fabric. Remember the dress that Maria wore during part of the Do-Ra-Mi montage? She was sitting in the wagon, pointing her riding crop at the kids? Whoever sewed that dress...those striped were dead on. The only thing that ever disappointed me was Maria's hair, so plain. Now the Countess, she could do hair and don't even get me started on that white ballgown!

I love, love, LOVE the Sound of Music ! You know, it was on telly not too long ago.
I've been to Salzburg. Beautiful city. Has to be one of my favourites.
I hear that they had to close down parts of the Sound Of Music tour because some over-zealous American tourists tried to reenact the "I am 16..." fancy dance in that little gazebo and one of them fell over and broke her arm....She's ruined it for the rest of us :)
